研究领域主要有会计基本理论、审计基本理论、财务管理基本理论、资本结构与企业财权安排、公司社会责任与公司治理、内部控制与风险管理。在《管理世界》、《南开管理评论》、《会计研究》、《审计研究》、《财政研究》、《中国软科学》等国内外重要学术期刊上发表学术论文200余篇,出版《会计哲学概论》、《会计行为管理学》、《责任会计理论与实践》、《中国上市公司资本结构治理效应研究》、《国际财务管理》、《高级财务管理》、《现代管理会计学》、《成本会计学》等专著和教材20余部,主持国家社科基金、教育部人文基金、湖北省社科基金、财政部基金和企业科研项目20余项,这些科研成果在国内学术界有较大影响,其中获省政府一等奖1项、三等奖3项,获武汉市政府二、三等奖3项,获武汉大学二、三等奖2项,获中国会计学会三等奖1项。主要为本科生、硕士研究生、博士研究生、MBA和EMBA讲授会计学原理、财务管理、管理会计、财务报表分析和内部控制等课程。

金属参与或催化的碳-碳键形成反应,尤其注重后过渡金属催化的碳-碳键形成方法的研究。有机膦化学,手性膦配体的设计、合成及产业化研究。工业均相催化剂的设计,精细有机合成及不对称合成方法的研究。
